Hey everyone.. I am new to this thing but I'm a first-time mom due December 18th. I haven't yet had my first US or anything, thats scheduled in 2 weeks. I'm also graduating from grad school in about a week and im looking for a job so I am pretty busy. I am at about 9 1/2 weeks right now and I get nausea but its not to bad. My taste buds dont seem very normal is that weird?

How did you know it was a girl at this stage? I'm crazy to know, but our doc said there is no way to know until the 20 wk ultrasound! Anyone else have a feeling what it is going to be? (or some of you may already know for sure!) BTW, I opened a new forum string in the second trimester section if you want to post there.

I'm due November 28th, this will be my second child (I havea 10yr old daughter). I had my appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat and see the baby (fiesty as ever- kicked and punched though the entire ultrasound). Looks like a girl, but my DH is still hoping for the little testies to drop and we get a different answer at our 20wk ultrasound, haha.

Hey, I'm due Oct. 31st, this is my second child. I haven't had any sickness, thank God. But I tell you one thing I have gained 13lbs already.......I already had to buy maternity pants. All I want to do is eat.

Hey since we are pretty much all second trimester, I'm going to open up a string in the "second trimester" forum.

My doc appt was on Monday too! I got to hear the heartbeat, and the little kiddo kicked the doppler thingy. Ha! Funny you should mention not eating as much but getting hungry more often. I'm the same way. Only I am all about the Mexican food instead of Italian! I have been more comfortable on my left side, I guess that explains why. I gained one pound in my first trimester, but my pants aren't fitting so much anymore. I borrowed some from a friend that are a size up from what I normally wear and they are pretty comfortable still. I guess in the second t we are supposed to gain 1 to 1 and a half pounds a week? I think I saw a article on weight gain on the info central section; maybe we should look that up!

I was reading online at Babyzone about the sleeping issue. Apparently, slleping on your back is not good becuase the vena cava- a vein that runs behind the placenta- get pressured and can decrease blood flow to the placenta and decrease circulation- causing dizziness, etc. This vein can also shift to the right, so they recommend sleeping on your left side. I sleep with a pillow between my legs to ease the back pain. I've stopped with the morning sickness (Yay!) and am now craving all things italian! Still can't eat as much, but get hungry more often. Dr's appt today! So excited! Anybody know how much weight we should be gaining now? I am growing but not gaining much...

I am going to be a first time grandma, my daughter is expecting November 1st. We are all very excited, but worried at the same time. Reading alot of the blogts here, I see that many of you are going through the same things that she is. I had easy pregnancies with both of my children so this new to me. Apparently this is all normal, but living it through a grandparent's eyes is not easy, especailly seeing your child going through so much discomfort....

Hey Miss Ellen. I hear you. I got acne like I haven't had since I was 16 and my hair started getting curly!! Honestly, I don't think it is possible to feel beautiful and feel like crap at the same time. ;) Just remember, if the baby is getting all of that beauty it is going to be one gorgeous baby! I will take 9 months of feeling less than pretty for that!

I just had a dentist appointment and the hygenists solved the mystery of the bad breath. Apparently it is called "pregnancy gengivitis" and it is very common. Thank the hormones ladies! She recommended brushing after every meal, flossing, and chewing a sugar free gum to help keep the bacteria from building up. On the diet thing, meat is slowly starting to taste okay again, but it is certainly not something I enjoy. I bought a book (the famous "what to expect when you are expecting") that contained a list of non-meat protein and iron sources so I still get what I need. Yaprak, I recommend that book if you can find it because it does answer a lot of questions that my doctor just says "is normal". I want details of course! On sleep, oh sleep how I miss thee let me count the ways. I discovered that if I (1) don't drink anything after 9:30 (2) turn a fan that blows directly on me and (3) wear a very attractive nose strip I can sleep pretty well. I have had problems with my sinuses getting swollen and stuffy (yeah hormones). So the room felt hot and I felt like I couldn't breath very well. I have started getting pressure when I attempt to sleep on my stomach, which is how I have always slept so that is a new problem. I still have to pee, but only 2-3 times a night so I get 3-4 hour stretches of sleep! I'll take it.

I am so happy that I found this site and read your posts. I was thinking I am the only one going through this weird things. I am due in October (27th). They said by the second trimester all the nausea and stuff would go away. Well, didn't happen yet.. I have this strange taste in my mouth also. I do hate it. It makes drinking water so much harder for me. When i drink water it seems like i taste that nasty flavor even more. My diet changed completely. I was a meat, salad person. First few weeks it was ok but suddenly chicken looked disgusting. then all kinds of meat. I can not stand the sight of smell of meat!!! I am having a real hard time with it. I close my eyes when I see fast food commercials on tv and man they do have a lot of them! I am also into vegetables and fruits now. Did anyone of you discussed this diet change with your doctor. I am worried I am not taking enough iron or protein.. My sleep cycle is not so awesome either. And having to pee every other hour is not helping..This is my first pregnancy and I do not have a lot of people to ask for advice. And to be honest doctors treat me like it's my 8th pregnancy or something, that i should know everything about it without asking them...
So if anyone has comments or tips please reply. Thanks
miss ellen
