My 26 month old is pushing my buttons!

My son loses his temper so fast! When he loses his temper or gets frustrated about something the first thing he does is throws a tantrum. Then when I try to help, he hits and kicks me! Today especially he is climbing everything and had broken 3 of my music boxes that were on a top shelf! Somehow he got into a room that had a childproof door knob cover on it to do so! I'll catch him up on a chair reaching for something and when he sees me, he knows he's busted, so he just starts screaming! Other things he'll do is look right at me and push down a 10 month old baby that I watch, or he'll just start throwing toys left and right. Follow thru isn't the problem because we follow thru with everything! Help! I've tried the spanking and time out route, I've tried the calmly talking to and explaning route. Neither has helped.
