Re: Moving a one year old out of the crib

I've been pondering over this same thing only because I'm tired of looking at her bedding and am so anxious to change her room! I think that she'd probably be better off in the crib until she's a little older, but her dad seems to think that making the transition at least to a toddler bed should be okay. My only concern is her waking up at night and getting out of her bed to go traipsing around the house in the dark. I will definitely have to place a gate in her doorway if I do decide to place her in the toddler bed.

Our little one is only 2 months, but we invested in a convertable crib. This may be a good option for your little one on the way. It starts as a crib and can then be converted into a toddler bed. It can even be used as a headboard for a full bed. For your one year old, try bed rails. I was climbing out of my crib by 10 months with the matress lowered and the rails raised. My mother moved me to a twin bed by one year. She said she felt safer since it was a shorter distance to the floor.

At the daycare, we move children out of the cribs onto mats at 14 months. The mats are on the floor, so they can't really fall off of them. Is the crib in your bedroom? Make room for the twin bed, put it in your room and that will help your child with the transition. Put lots of pillows on the floor next to the bed so the fall will be cushiony... just in case. -- Marlene loves David!!!!!! stepdaughter Raevyn- 6 in May; son Marik- 4 in July; son Jace- 2 in May

Moving a one year old out of the crib

My one year old will be 17 months when the new sibling arrives. I have a twin bed for him, but is it too early to move him there? My boss moved all three of his children to a toddler bed at 11 months, and none of them sleep through the night because they have "freedom." I don't want this to happen. Should I start trying nap time in the twin bed? Is it too high, even with rails, considering how squirmy he can be in his sleep? Should I get another crib, or a toddler bed? He sleeps well in the crib now, and likes to jump around while he is still awake and hang on the sides.
