Hello there well grunting is perfectly normal. I have two daughters and am pregnant with my third. They were both grunters but seemed to grow out of it around three months, i suppose it is when they grow the right muscles to push out the bowel movement, who knows. But the good news is that both of mine grew out of it. So i wouldn't be too concerned

Hi my name is Emily I have a one year old little girl and i have another child due in november. my daughter did the whold grunting thing. nothing to be concerned with. she just turned one in april and she still grunts for just about eveything she wants. I dont so much remember her grunting in her sleep but we called her the little devil because she would almost make and evil grunt everynow and then. i wouldn't worry about it. just a little way to communicate when they get older. ha ha!

My grandson is 10 weeks old and he's grunted since birth - almost constantly when he's awake and sporadically when he's asleep. Not a fussy kind of grunt, just little pig like "ehh, ehh, uhh" sounds. I have noticed recently, however, that the bigger he gets, the less he grunts -- replaced with coo'ing / laughing. He's a perfectly happy, healthy, chunky little guy -- just born with a "grunt" lol

Hi! I have 4 kids-7yr, twin 3yr, and a 13 wk. Grunting sounds are perfectly normal for babies. They usually signify bowel movements or gas, but they can also be heard during eating, so as long as your doc says your baby is gaining weight healthily, don't worry! While baby is eating, the grunts may be swallowing and/or breathing between gulping.

Grunting is very normal. If your child is having regular bowel movements that is all you should concern yourself with. My daughter came home from the hospital with an umbilical hernia and had a lot of trouble bm's. I found that camomile oil and message worked wonders.

my bay girl would have big arguments with her but and tummy! she got quite colicy and did not sleep soundly from 4 to 7 weeks but she is now 13 weeks and has better control of her system now. I found a warm bath and a massage at night before bed time really helped her and i also took her to get adjusted and to have a session of reflexology and acupressure, I tried everything cause she was constantly grunting, crying and throwing herself around. she would only sleep laying on my chest on her tummy and never slept soundly. she was exhausted. After i took her for the therapy session she slept 36 hours only waking for feeding and she has been really good since. She still has times of grunting but they pass. She now sleeps for 6 to 8 hours a night and i am able to sleep YEY. Good luck, it will pass with time and she will be more comfortable when she has a more mature digestive system. Look up the colic hold on line and this will help her tummy feel better and give u an arm work out too lol. -- Edited by melandzoe at 04/08/2009 11:56 AM PDT

My baby girl is 5wks old and ever since about 2wks she grunts and acts like she having a tough time with bowel movements. But her movements are normal. She does this especially when she is sleeping and a lot at night. We have spoken with the pediatrician and he doesn't seem concerned and she is eating well. Has anybody else had this? Is it something to be concerned about or is she just a noisy sleeper?
