Well consider yourself very lucky if your 2 week old is sleeping peacefully through the night and you actually have to wake him to eat. During the night you should not let your baby sleep any more than 5 hours between feedings. I am a strong believer that you do not wake a sleeping baby but you don't want your son dropping weight if you can help it. When it comes to eating during the day it all depends on what you are feeding him, if you are pumping and giving him breastmilk in a bottle allow him to eat to his hearts content. Every doctor/prediatrician I've encountered has said that a baby's only jobs are to eat and sleep. Especially for the first month. However, if you are giving him formula, you might want to monitor how much he consumes a little more closely. But this early in the game allow him to eat as much as he wants. Once he is one or two months old and has started to put on weight, then ask your pediatrician how much he/she would recommend you feeding your son. Good luck, and have fun!

I have a 11 day old baby that sleeps nicely at night and I have to wake him to eat at night. He will wake in the day about every 3 hours to feed. So I was wondering could he go longer than 3-5 hours? I feed him a bottle and he eats 4 oz every feeding. He could eat more but I dont want to over do it. Also, how much can he be eating at this age? He weighs 8 lbs. Thanks, Lauren
