I use the Paragard IUD, and it lasts 10 years as opposed to 5 years like Mirena. Thus far, I do experience the heavy bleeding with my period, but I breast fed and did not have a period for the first year of my daughter's life. After I stopped pumping and my milk supply declined, it seemed that my period became much heavier, so I'm not sure if it's the Paragard causing it or my decrease in breastfeeding. Other than that, I've had no problems with it and plan to keep it until I decide whether or not I'd like to have another child. Probably not though!

very interesting.....a few years ago i used the patch. i think it was called ortho evra.... i ballooned up with weight. i hated that part. then hubby heard that people were having heart attacks and stuff and a few died and it freaked me out so i quit it. i also used the depo shot and gained weight too. sounds like nothing out there is nice to us in the weight department....has anyone heard of the matchstick one that goes in your arm???

Hi...i am a new member to Huggies Baby Network and I just read your thoughts on Mirena. I had it put in at my 6-week post-partum after having my twin boys and I am experiencing EVERYTHING that you have written about. Scary! Of course my doctor didn't tell me any of these things either and now I am seriously considering taking it out. I was very nervous to even have it put in but I listened to my doctor who said that his wife uses it with no problems. Ever since I've been experiencing all of those horrible things. What birth control will you try after MIrena? I'm thinking about just taking the pill.

When I stopped breast feeding I started on Evra... I before my children I always had the worst period pains, horrid PMS, and my periods were never reliable... Evra is a weekly patch.. Sort of like a smokers patch... You pick a day of the week for example Monday, and every monday you change it. When it is time for you period you take it off for a week. I have not suffered any period pains using this and I had no PMS, and when I came off it to try for my second child, my period stayed regular, my PMS came back but no where near as bad as it was, and the same with my period pains....

Birth controls always killing me and almost killed my SO as well lol. mm my doctor never recommended me to use any other methods than the pills. She said that's the best option and hey... you have to do some effort if you don't want to get pregnant (she is right) so she gave me the pills(Lybrel) and it works for me and I have less period and no more cramping..lol. but yeah.. every woman have different situation and condition.. -- Feed the piggy and you'll be rich!!

MelidyS--Wow, this is good info, I had the mirena inserted on the advice of my doctor, but the same things have been happening to me. So have you just had it removed?

Birthcontrol is a tricky thing. I choose the Depo provera shot and I hated it too! I gained weight like crazy after losing the baby weight once I got the shot. Now i'm back on an everyday pill routine but it seems to work better for me then any of the long term birth control methods. I had to go through 7 different kinds of birth control after having my daughter before I found something that didnt make me gain weight and didnt have any awful side effects! Talk to your doctor and ask questions! Make him/her work for you, because it's better then going through the trial and error like I did. I had my period for three months straight just because of birth control. So After having my daughter I bled, then got on birth control and kept bleeding for months after! I should have asked more questions and done more research before making myself a human guinney pig for birth control methods. It's so hard to figure out what will work best for you especially after all of the hormonal changes and stuff that goes along with having our beautiful little babies! Here's a hint if you go back to a pill everyday. I carry the pill case with me in my purse right next to my cell phone, and i have a reminder set to go off every morning at 8am so when I reach in to shut off the phone alarm I automatically grab & take my birthcontrol pill for the day. Good luck! -- PoconoMom(Donna)

dont do it. i have it and i hate it. im going to have it taken out. everyone that i have spoken to about it that has it hates it. i lost a ton of weight after i had my daughter and since i had that thing put in i have gain like 20 lbs in 5 months. i always had very thick, soft, full of body hair and now it fall in chunks and its always dry. you have weird discharge its white to light yellow and muscusy. you get b.o. and when you get your period you bleed like when you gave birth. blood clod come out of you. i can go on and on but if you want more info let me know. seriously research online the side effects cause the doctors and the mirena website dont tell you this. -- Ceydy's mommy

I just went to the doctors yesterday for my 6 week check up after having my little pumpkin, and we were disscussing birth control. He mentioned that something that might work better for me (because I suck at remembering to take the pill everyday, and hate shots) would be Mirena. I was just wondering if anyone here has tried it and what have their experiences been with it?
