My daughter is almost 7 months, and I started her on rice cereal at 5 1/2 months. I fed her the cereal twice a day and continued to breast feed since she was slightly under 6 months when I started. I then added single grain oatmeal the next week and continued each week with the introduction of another single grain cereal until she had mastered about three of them. Keep in mind that she was still eating solids twice per day when I added a new cereal, so I was able to give her one kind at one feeding and another kind at the second feeding.

Once she ate the single grain cereals with no issues, I started to add the Gerber Organic stage 1 foods like applesauce, sweet potatoes, peas, etc. I added a different food to her diet every 3 days to ensure that she did not have any reactions, and she took them all well. A example of her meal plan once I started to add the stage 1 food was grain cereal for breakfast, maybe a teaspoon of applesauce for an afternook snack, and grain cereal and sweet potatoes for dinner.

Many people say to start a baby out with veggies before fruits, but my daughter likes them equally although it does make sense to try the less liked foods first. She loves the applesauce. She's up to three meals per day since she's eating more than I anticipated, so I'll keep adding foods until it's time for her to move to Stage 2 foods. She's almost there!

I would definitely recommend that you visit the Gerber website to get some ideas on what to feed your baby. They also have some example menus that you could possibly follow depending on your baby's age and milestones that might help.

I had to start my son on cereal when he was 3 months formula wasn't enough to keep him satisfied. (I did so under his perdeatritions instrustions) she told us once he turned 4 months i could offer fruits or veggies hes been eatting them since he was 4 months I tried the meats but he doesn't like them its all about your babies taste I was told that if your baby doesnt like something try again in a couple weeks. The advise i got is once your baby starts takeing 8-10 ounces of formula a feeding then its time to start cereal he now eats rice, barley, oatmeal, and mixed grain and he loves them all. I was also told NEVER to put cereal in your babies bottle. It may take a bit of time for them to adjust to the texture it took my son almost a month before he would eat it reguarly. every baby is diffrent though.

Once you open the food its good for 2-3 days in the fridge but i was also told that if you feed your baby from the container if they dont finish it throw it away, best suggestion put a little bit in a bowl and add more with a clean spoon as you go. If you use the spoon that your feeding you baby with the same applies becasue bacteria from babies spit can grow on the food and make your baby sick. Even if its in the fridge.

Just a quick note - spoke with my pediatrician about the order in which to offer pureed foods. He said that the idea that feeding fruits first causes a baby to have a sweet tooth is a myth. He suggested that we feed our infant whatever he likes first because the important thing is to get him used to a different texture of food.

Oh ... and never give an infant under the age of one honey. Infants under the age of one cannot digest honey.

Hi This is very important to know like what to feed your child in what age for the proper nutrition their body need for growth.

I will suggest please read this article which explains about the food you need to give your kid from 6-9 months.

Please let me know if it helps or you need any other information.

hi
so yes u can start on puree foods but first veggies then fruit then meats then mixed meat and veggies.the reason for this order is fruit is sweeter then veggies and if u feed them fruit first they may not eat the veggies and u want them to eat veggies.the meat is last b/c it is harder on the tummy then veggies and friut.
now with the cearel, everytime u try one kind next time get the next one so eg. first oat then wheat then mixed.after u tryed all the different types of grain then u go to oat with honey and so on.
now as for how long to store the jars as long as they are not opened they are good before the due date and don't need to be in the frige.once u open them they need to be in the fridge and as long as u don't feed right from the jar the are good for one night in the fridge.if not used by the next day toss it.now if u decide to feed right from the jar then after that feeding toss it.the sliva from the baby makes it no good for the n next feeding.
hope this helps u out.u can also try the hinez web site too.

Feeding Baby Rice Cereal.

Aug 31, 2008 12:30 PM

I have been feeding my baby rice cereal once a day for about 2 weeks now, at least. He just turned 7 months and I was wondering if I should start introducing the meats/veggies/fruits, or start him on an oatmeal or some other type of cereal first. Also,I was wondering how long the meat, veggies, and fruit stayed good for in the fridge. After how many days of opening it should I throw it away?

Any advice is appreciated! :)
