My husband and I are expecting our first child and hoping for a boy. We have already had this discussion about circumcision and the answer we came up with us to not due it. My husband and his older brother neither are circumcised and neither have had any problems. I know too many friends and friends of theirs that have had their sons circumcised and it turn out wrong. Of course with everyone it is the parents choice.

My son is 4 and a half months old and my fiance and I decided not to have him circumsized. Im glad we didnt. Its much easier to care for. I just make sure that as soon as he goes potty in his diaper I change it as soon as I can and wipe him down really good. Ive yet to have any problems. I would not recommend circumsion. -- ✯danielle✯

My sister did not circumcis her son either so he would look like his dad. I think that is a good idea 4 the child 2 look like daddy and/or brothers -- Juliebug

I did get my son who is 2 now circumcision, however a differ doc did it in the hospital but they used a scapal the old way, now they r suspost 2 use clamp like they do on the bellybutton. I was pritty pissed cuz there more prone 2 infected getting it done that way. Well a few days (bout a week) an it looked funny, i showed his grandma and she said it was growing back on there. Now i did pull it back like they said, but i wasent pulling it back enough and the skin had grown back the raw part again. We had 2 slowly ripe it back down w/t every diaper change. He would scream in pain, it was really hard an sad 4 me 2 do. So please spare the pain 4 u and ur child an make sure before hand that they use the clamp!!!! That is if u decide 2 do it, good luck!!! -- Juliebug

I think that there are many benefits on both sides of this topic which is why I am so glad I'm having a girl. Before we knew for sure my husband and I talked about it. We have no religious reasons to do so but we thought it was common place. We talked about it at length and did research about it, non of which helped us most of it was personal opinion with very little fact behind it.

i don't see what all the fuss is about... my fiance and i are circummcising our son which is due in 5 weeks. i don't see the reason not to i mean as long as you keep it clean there shouldn't be a problem just make sure you know what your doing and you trust your ob/gyn!

My 20 month old was circumcised in the hospital by another OB in the practice that delivered him. I feel like he didn't do a good job. I remember looking at my son's penis during diaper changes through out his earlier months and it appeared to be red or irritated. At one point it developed what my husband and I called a huge zit. We had to squeeze it and treated it for about 3-5 days until it healed. He hasn't had much trouble since then but I don't think it looks as good as it should. I am still on the fence about circumcising my next son who I am 7 months pregnant with.

My partner and I are choosing not to circumcise our son-to-be for many reasons. One being if the concern was that the son look like the father, my boyfriend is not circumcised either, so that is not a worry. Two, we do not want to put our son through the trauma of the procedure, and lastly, the operation costs money in Canada, it is not covered by healthcare, and since we dont have any religous reasons for it, we are happy with not having it done. But to each their own! -- **tasha**

I have a little one close to 4 months & a teenager of 15! I did not circumcise my oldest for the reason of my mother's religion & that I do regret & on my newsiest I did circumcise & that I did at the hospital! Some times as a mother you think you make the right choices for your kids on what doctor is right for your child or what's best for them! But on doing research on a doctor is a little of waste of time & I know it's not your fault that happened to your baby! I was new to the circumcision to my baby I didn't know what to expect but for future always go with your instinct....

My son is now 13months old and we were sorry that we got him circumcised. The doctor made a mistake when applying the clamp and it caused bleeding and a deep cut on one side. A urologist had to take a look at him, he needed stitches and a few follow up visits. He will eventually need to have plastic surgery to correct the problems and appearance. Make sure you know the doctor doing the procedure and check his background! We trusted this doctor because he was in the same practice as my obgyn and followed word of mouth that he was very good at doing this procedure. Upon further investigation, after the accident, we found out he had numerous complaints in another state!Although we had a freak experience, the procedure is usually safe and goes smooth. Be informed about your doctors! -- PoconoMom(Donna)

I got my new "Parenting" magazine today. There was an interesting article in it about circumcisions (page 34),"To cicumcise or not?" Many of us from both sides of this issue have debated this on the boards before. I was surprised to learn that in the US only 60% of babies are being circumcised. I knew there was a growing trend not to circumcise, but I did not realize how big the trend had become. The American Academy of Pediatrics does not discourage or recommend circumcisions. The article says that as circumcision rates fall, evidence of the medical benefits of circumcision becomes more apparent. I chose to circumcise my sons based on my knowledge and experiences as a nurse. -- Emsweethree: Little Man Christianator Little Livy Lou Who
